mission/vision

By providing specialized expertise, technology business assistance, technical resources and a network of valuable relationships, DSTA assists entrepreneurs and innovators with developing new businesses and dual use technologies focused on both military and commercial needs in the areas of security and defense.  As a thought leader in business acceleration, DSTA creates opportunities for new technology business formation and knowledge-based job creation in the Fayetteville/Cumberland County area, as well as, in Raleigh and Charlotte.  It serves both resident companies and non-resident, or affiliate, companies from around the state that want to develop technology and products for the military and/or commercial markets.  DSTA is a 15,000 square foot facility in Fayetteville, North Carolina which has 12 to 15 resident startups.  DSTA also accommodates another 10 affiliate, or non-resident companies.

A clear policy for graduating companies has been implemented to allow businesses to stay at DSTA for a maximum of two years.  The goal is to provide companies with the resources to grow successfully at an accelerated pace.

DSTA has a focus on fostering collaborative efforts, leveraging regional strengths and building connections between the Fayetteville area, Research Triangle Park (RTP), Centennial Campus at NC State University, the Ben Craig Center at UNC Charlotte and other centers of innovation throughout the state of North Carolina.  DSTA brings together the military, entrepreneurs, universities, innovators and technology companies to generate and share ideas, understand needs, and develop technology solutions.  It utilizes the expertise of organizations and individuals, or “Subject Matter Experts,” who have a deep understanding of entrepreneurs to develop successful technology businesses.  Value-added business assistance; access to a network of resources and professional expertise; and, one-on-one coaching by on-site staff and volunteers, which are all tailored to the needs of early stage military and dual-use technology companies, are provided.  It connects these entrepreneurs with innovations developed at universities and companies in RTP, as well as engineering talent and know-how.
