FSU signs agreement with Partnership for Defense Innovation
FAYETTEVILLE – Fayetteville State University signed a Memorandum of Understanding today with the Partnership for Defense Innovation at the Defense Security and Technology Accelerator to collaborate in pursuing government grants and contracts relevant to their respective purposes.
The agreement will also involve the formation and growth of entities engaged in the research and development of technologies having military and homeland security applications.
“This partnership falls in line with our strategic plan which includes more focus on hands-on education with an increase in externships and internships, an increase in research and development capabilities, as well as new focus areas in intelligence studies, homeland security and international relations,” Juliette B. Bell, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs at FSU, said in a statement. “Existing programs in computer science, basic and applied science, and business will benefit as well.”
PDI and FSU also seek to collaborate in areas of research development and internship opportunities.
“We are excited about the opportunities that will be created between PDI and FSU with respect to upcoming research and development opportunities for the defense sector, as well as the internship possibilities for FSU students,” said Scott Perry, president of PDI and executive director of the DSTA.
PDI is the parent organization of the Defense Security and Technology Accelerator (DSTA). Located in Fayetteville, DSTA is a thought leader in the development of entrepreneurial programs that assist entrepreneurs with the rapid development (eight to 18 months) of dual-use defense and security technology solutions to meet military needs and private commercial demands. DSTA’s unique collaborative model fosters valuable connections between entrepreneurs and innovators, the military, private industry, and universities. |
