PDI’s Defense & Security
Technology Accelerator awards
local business $44K to Build
Training Software for Ft. Bragg’s
Jumpmaster School
Fayetteville, N.C. (May 26, 2009) The Partnership for
Defense Innovation (PDI), a tax exempt 501c (3) organization
established to promote job creation and economic development,
recently awarded a $44,000 fusion grant to one of its newest
clients, Immersion Media Inc.
Early-stage technology companies often lack access to the capital
and expertise that can enable them to develop sound technology,
build viable production and grow their business. The fusion grant
offered through PDI will help to bridge this gap by assisting with
product development and market assessment, while helping to
improve the success rate of these early-stage companies. Immersion
Media, a Fayettevillebased company, is a leading developer for
sports training and fan-engagement software. They joined the PDI’s
Defense and Security Technology Accelerator (DSTA), in early
May. Immersion Media will use the money (FUSION GRANT) to
develop a motion capture video training for Jumpmaster training
conducted at the Advanced Airborne School at Fort Bragg.
Immersion Media developed similar software for Major League
Baseball’s Joe Torre’s Virtual Baseball Academy and US Figure
Skating’s basic skills program. When owner, Rick Perko learned
the standard failure rate was almost 50% at the jumpmaster school,
he saw a fit for the company’s technology. His goal is to increase
the number of graduates with the use of training engagement
software. The mission of the U.S. Army Jumpmaster School is to
train personnel in the skills necessary to master a combat-equipped
jump.
For the month of June, Fayetteville’s own Community
Kaleidoscope will feature a segment on PDI and Immersion Media.
The segment will air every Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.on Time Warner
Cable Community Channel 7.
