FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fayetteville, NC (June 18, 2009)- The Partnership for Defense Innovation (PDI), announced today that CAUSwave  Inc. has joined the Defense and Security Technology Accelerator (DSTA) program to accelerate introductions of new energy technology to North Carolina.  CAUSwave was incorporated in May 2008 and is headquartered in Pittsboro.  Their mission reflects President Obama’s alternative energy initiative; develop and market a revolutionary alternative energy conversion technology in order to serve markets for clean energy, electricity generation and fossil fuel independence.

The CAUSwave technology is a revolutionary energy conversion discovery that will lead to new, sustainable and non-polluting sources of electricity and propulsion.  This technology uses compressed air in conjunction with granular material to create powerful kinetic energy.  This kinetic energy can be used to create electrical energy to propel expendable launch vehicles and other projectiles. The value of this technology is its potential to enhance the economic viability of alternative energies such as wind and solar, while dramatically reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

To accelerate this technology development, PDI will bring one of their academic partners, Western Carolina University (WCU) to help CAUSwave with prototype production. “The engineering support provided by WCU will facilitate the transition between research and production,” said Dr. Bob McMahan, Dean of the Kimmel School at WCU.  CAUSwave President and CEO, Dr. Jeffrey L. Riggs, found the PDI/ DSTA and WCU collaborations to be a great asset to his product; “For CAUSwave, Inc. the availability of PDI and WCU is a tremendous opportunity to mature our products while bringing more jobs to North Carolina. They are an important part of our state’s great economic potential as it helps to meet the challenges of national security, economic recovery and energy dependencies.”

“CAUSwave’s alternate energy source is a great example of dual use technology which has applications to provide support to the warfighter and national alternate energy initiatives, while strengthening the collaborations between business, industry and academia,” Scott Perry, President, PDI.
